Child Reading Award
The family of Hope E. Dean established the Foundation for Children’s Books as a tribute to their Mother. They commissioned this sculpture as an award to be given to several people annually who have made major contributions to children’s literature. Mrs. Dean was an avid sailor and did heroic things like build stone walls.
The sculpture is of a young child sitting on a stone wall reading, with books close by on the ground on one side and a Teddy Bear on the other. Behind the child is a small sailboat. The sculpture is caste in bronze, mounted on a Walnut base ,under which is a rotating Lazy Susan hardware. It is signed by me and numbered. |
